Jersey Shore Jr.

This photo is nothing new, but it's just so hilariously cute I had to share it to even more people.

My only question is.....Where's Vinny?!

Documentary Obsession

Thanks to Netflix, my obsession with documentaries has only heightened as I have a slew of options to choose from. I've always enjoyed watching reality tv over other genres. I have a deep interest in learning how others live - from the very richest to the poorest, from learning about Muslim, Christian, or Jewish traditions, and overall gaining and idea of people's perspectives on life around the world. I always said that in another life, I would have been a sociologist.

Here is a list of some documentaries that have impacted me the most:

1) Jesus Camp - A Christian camp in North Dakota that teaches and encourages children to be evangelists and spread the good word of Jesus.

2) Exit Through the Gift Shop - A documentary about Thierry Guetta, who loved to film everything and ended up catching some graffiti artists in action, which turned into an obsession. He ended up meeting legendary street artists Banksy and Shepard Fairey, and later turned himself into a renown street artist.

3) Which Way Home - This follows a group of young boys from El Salvador and Honduras who ride atop trains through Mexico to try and reach the U.S. It's a long and dangerous trip that often ends of death or deportation back to their impoverished homes.

4) Seoul Train - People often forget about North Korea and the millions of people who are dyeing in the hands of their cruel and unforgiving government. They are isolated from the world, and this documentary shows you the people who try and help them escape as well as a peek inside North Korea through hidden cameras. (I cried through most of this documentary).

5) Forgiving Dr. Mengele -Dr. Mengele was a Nazi doctor who used Jewish twins for genetic experiments, which were often pure torture. One of the surviving twins brings us back to this time in detail as well as where she currently is in life.

6) Steal a Pencil For Me - This follows a love story that could influence a blockbuster romance film. During WWII in the Netherlands, a married man, Jack, falls in love with a woman, Ina. There love does not grow until they have been placed into labor camps where they write secret love notes to one another. They are later sent to the same extermination camp where they end up surviving, and later meet once again, marry, and lived a happy life.

I LOVE the new Bravo show 9 by Design, so I HAD to stop and see their home. It's not THAT creepy...they live down the street from me!

Daft Bodies

I'm a huge Daft Punk fan, so of course I think this video called "Daft Bodies" is awesome. At first I thought, "WTF...this video has 8 million hits and it's of 2 half-naked girls with duct taped cardboard boxes over their heads dancing to Daft Punk!" Then I watched it, and totally dig it. I think you would also appreciate it.

Movie Collection

I went home last weekend for Easter, and where MUST I go before I leave? Target. Sounds funny huh? Well, there's no Target in Manhattan, so that makes it quite the schlep. Not to mention when you do make it to an area in Target (Jersey, Brooklyn, etc.) the selection is quite picked over. Forget picking up the latest designer-collaborated item. What I like most about my Target trips, are the movies. I have never bought a movie over $7.50 there, but my choices have been superb. This past trip, I bought Roman Holiday, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, and Hairspray. My selections may seem random, but they are all movies I love!

Catching Up With Oscar

I am slowly, but surely catching up with 2010 Oscar's best films of the year. So far I've seen Avatar, District 9, Inglourious Basterds, Up in the Air, and Hurt Locker. Out of the remainder films, I want to see An Education, Precious, and Blindside (no, I have not seen that movie yet). I'm pleasantly surprise at how many of them I've seen thus far, and I must say that I have not been disappointed.

Hunger + Thunder & Lightning = Jimmy Dean Commercial

I think the Jimmy Dean breakfast commercials are high-larious! You know, the one with all the people dressed up like planets, the sun, the moon, etc! My personal fav is the Thunder & Lightning commercial. BOOOOM!

Alice Inspired

I'm a huge Tim Burton fan, so you can imagine how excited I was to hear he was directing the 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland. The movie is coming out in March, and boy am I excited to see it. If people are expecting to see a rendition of the Disney version, then I suggest they check out the trailer or perhaps see any of Tim Burton's past films - Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Big Fish, James and the Giant Peach, etc. If you didn't like the 2005 re-make of Charlie and the Chocolate factory, then I may assume you won't care for this version of Alice in Wonderland...not that I am saying they are comparable movies, but that Tim Burton gives a very dark perception of things that some people do not like. I happen to love the dark, mysterious, quirkiness that is Tim Burton, so even if the story sucks, I will love this movie.

MTV's Jersey Shore....Another one of my guilty pleasures

I'm sure my friends aren't shocked when I say that MTV's new reality show, Jersey Shore, is awesome. I blame it on the East Coasters who went to IU, where I observed their ways of life like a zoologist studying the behaviors of lions. I even took a liking to the Gotti boys.

Until moving to NY, I thought all New Yorkers were like the Looong Island/Joisey guidos and guidettes I saw at school. To my surprise, I never saw one of these stereotypicals guids in Manhattan. I guess these people all hide at the Jersey Shore, because I went there 2 summers ago and was in a land of fist pumps, hair bumps, Affliction tees, and hair gel. I was so tramatized I told my bf to take me to the train stop and I would rather take a 2 hour train back to Manhattan than get my eyes poked out by some guy's blow-out. Nonetheless, the Jersey Shore show brings me back to my days of observing the weird phenomena of the guids without actually being in their presence. Me likey.

Last Holiday

So I never thought a movie featuring Queen Latifah would make me thankful for life, but her movie, Last Holiday, is an uplifting and happy movie to see. To be honest, it's on TBS quite often and I watch it every time I run into it. Basically, Queen Latifah's character, Georgia Byrd is a woman full of what-ifs and dreaming of the possibilities. She works at a department store, saves every dime of her money for something bigger, never ate what she wanted (but loved to cook for others), and never took chances with a man she is interested in (LL Cool J nonetheless!). One day, after an accident, Georgia is told that she is terminally ill and only has 3 weeks to live. She doesn't tell anyone, and instead, she cashes some bonds her mother left her, took out her savings, and went to Europe to stay at a grandiose hotel. This is when Georgia lets loose. She flies first class, eats like a Queen, meets new friends, and really enjoys her last days. Should I tell you the rest? Maybe you should check it out, because this movie really motivates me to live life to the fullest because you never know when your last day will come.

(Pssst.....the movie has a happy ending).

Now That Gossip Girl is Done for the Season...

Now that Gossip Girl is done for the season, what next? Bravo recently aired their new real-life GG, called NYC Prep. There has only been one episode thus far, and what do I think? I secretly like it. Actually, I secretly like to hate it. Watching these rich teens prance around the city like it's the high school's highways, makes me sick, yet jealous at the same time. I mean, I can't really hate the kids. I was once a wild, rude, boy-crazy teen who thought I was invincible. So basically, I have the show dvr'd and I plan on watching it, hating PC and Jessi, and swooning over Sebastian like I was Mary Kay LeTourneau.

Bruno Ist Coming

Can I just tell you how excited I am to see Bruno!! I'm still quoting Borat for heaven's sake!

Bruno is the new cover model for the July issue of GQ, where he was asked a few questions and this is what he said:

Hey, Brüno, I recently started collecting unemployment. Any style tips for someone on a tight budget?
Times are hard, but if you shop around und are prepared to vear some things twice before throwing zem avay, it is still possible to look good on a clothing budget of about $20,000 a veek. Ich mean, obwiously you vill need a bit more zan zat if you are planning on leaving ze house.

Dear Brüno, where should I be putting my iPhone? The wife says the belt clip is totally out, But it looks like a tuna sandwich in my pocket. Anyplace else?
Vhat ein stupid question. Keep it in your assistant’s pocket, obwiously.

Dear Brüno, I am all in favor of protecting the animals, but what is reasonable? I won’t wear fur, but do I need to give up my leather jackets or shoes?
Ich vant to make it clear: Brüno ist totally against vearing fur—it’s too expensive und high-maintenance. I mean, vhy don’t giant pandas have a label on zem saying zey’re not machine vashable? Regarding shoes und jackets, if you vant to be ein Leatherboy, zat’s fine.

Dear Brüno, if forced to choose: Dolce or Gabbana?
Gabbana. Dolce is bald, so zere’s no hair to grab hold of.

Dumb-Dumb of the Week: Speidi

The wrongfully infamous Spencer and Heidi Pratt are just part of the crazy cast of NBC's "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here" (along with Janice Dickinson & Sanjaya Malakar to name a few). For some reason this show is on 4 days a week for the next three weeks, but I must admit that as much as I despise Speidi, they give the show the crazy drama I enjoy.

Anywho, Spencer and Heidi started the show off by complaining the second they get to Costa Rica, and they tried to quit before the first night ended. Spencer was even "over-heard" talking to NBC chairman saying, "This cast is devaluing our fame!" Not only that, when the cast asked them what they were going to tell their charities (a charity of choice would get money for however long their person stays on the show), they said they chose the biggest ones so it wouldn't be a big deal if they didn't get this money. Then after they tried to flee Costa Rica, the rest of the cast members raided their belongings, which only started mayhem when they came back and discovered this looting. Spencer went ape-shit at the Frangelica duo for ripping the label off Heidi's dry shampoo; he went so crazy I thought he would need to be tranquilized to calm down. Nonetheless, they left the show only to come back and say they were sorry.

I'm sure all of this acting-out was all a publicity stunt, but it sure does make me hate them more. Hell, I hate to hate them because they loovvee being hated. The only way they get anyone to notice them is by do something tacky, raunchy, and awful. I won't lie, they are really good at being the most redonkulous-disgusting couple in Hollywood.

Season Finales

Tis the season for the finales of all my favorite shows. Yes, I'm a bit of a TV nerd, but it keeps me from spending money. So this is what I think....

*Lost: Most loved it, I wanted more closure. Last season, some got off the island, but this season a lot of nothing happened. I was a bit upset with the following... Sun and Jin did not reunite, No one is really in love with Juliette, Is Jack crazy or not?, Is Ben a good guy or not?, What is the deal with Locke? Can any questions be answered?!!

*Gossip Girl: SPOTTED...An awesome season finale ending with high school graduation.
YES...Chuck and Blair!
SO...Georgina, Dan, and Blair are all going to NYU? Serena will be at Brown? How will this work out?
HOORAY...Lily and Rufus are finally engaged!
UH-OH...Looks like the long lost son will be around the next season.
BLAH...I'm sooo over Nate and Vanessa (not that I ever cared about their boring story line).

P.S. I found myself oooing and ahhhing over Blair's headbands (No, I'm not over the headband thing...I love them still...don't judge) -- especially the gold rope one.

*One Tree Hill: This was a tear-jerker for me. A finale with a 99% of happyendings, except for Dan being hated by everyone in his life. I wish everyone could forgive him before he croaks! I'm just happy that baby Sawyer has BOTH parents. I'm happy that Brooke tells Julian she loves him. I love that Brooke's mom is being nice. I'm excited for Nathan to be in the NBA...finally. And the happy list goes on and on.

Soooo I'm embarrassed to admit this, but there are more finales that I've watched and loved, but choose not to discuss (in order for me to not look like a complete loser). Oh-me-oh-my.

FEED Fashion

If you have watched the most recent season of The Real Housewives of New York City, you may remember Alex McCord trying on a corset made of 3 FEED bags made by designer Maggie Norris. FEED is an organization that makes 100% organic cotton burlap bags that are sold worldwide in which one purchased bag = feeding a child in school for one year. A pretty great cause I must say, not to mention a trendy reusable bag to haul any goodies you may have.

Well, to my point of bringing all this up...
The Whole Foods in Chelsea has a window display showcasing 8 or so designs made with these FEED bags. They are very cool, very unique, and 100% Green. Awesomeness.

"The City"

I will not deny my fond feelings for MTV's The City (The Hills spin-off with Whitney Port). I hated The Hills, but I loved LC's fellow intern, Whitney, and now she has her own show right here in NY.
Maybe it's because it's in NY is why I enjoy it so much, but nonetheless it is recorded on the DVR every week.

I like to envy Whitney/Erin/Olivia's wardrobes, laugh that Whitney (and friends) live in the sickest apartments that would cost at least $3000 a month to rent, wish that I could work at Diane Von Furstenberg , and swoon over Jay's accent. I also love that they display the name and location of each club/bar/restaurant/store they go to in the city......some of which I have been to myself.

Other than the NYC connection, my old roomie Kat is friends with the model/went on a dates with Whitney in the first episodes named Alex (of whom threw a party for a friend, and of which I attended).

One more plus is that my bf likes to watch the show too!

The Incredible Mr. G

Mr. G is the 10 o'clock weatherman on Channel 11 here in NY, and he is no ordinary weather dude. I think Anchor Man was influenced by this man. He looks like he wears a toupee, but he gives us the weather in a big and cheesy manner. I never liked the news until Mr. G came into my bedroom every night at 10PM.
