Adios Summer?

Could it be that summer is really over? I mean, not that it ever REALLY felt like summer this year. I don't know if it's working a busy job or that it rained for the first 20 days of June, but summer came and gone without me even noticing. At least I got to enjoy some nice things this summer: Boating on the Hudson, 4th of July in the Hamptons, hitting up the Jersey Shore, but that was about it. Sigh...

(Above image is from just north of the city on the Hudson. What a lovely day that was.)

Sweet Tooth

I have such a sweet tooth and nothing to calm the urge. I think this is what it feels like when a meth-addict is fiendin'. Cookies, ice cream, choc-o-lates.....anything?! If it wasn't for living all the way up in a 5th floor walk-up, I may have just walked down the street to Magnolia's for some banana pudding or cherry jamboree.

Scent-sational!

I've been searching for a sent that makes me stand out a little apart from the rest. To be honest, I always envied those who always smelled like something wonderful. You know, like when the person walks by you, you know it's them without even turning your head. My aunt has worn the same perfume since she was in college, and the funny thing is that I still don't know what it is. Sounds a bit creepy, but it's better than being the stinky girl! Well, I've been getting some compliments about my perfume and that has become my "scent". Shwing shwing! I got my wish! I don't know if I want to give you my secret scent, but I will say that it's by Tocca.

Sense of Accomplishment

Today was a VERY long day. All was going well until 5PM when I was called to duty for another presentation. After a 9 hour day + another 6 working only on this project, you would think I was pooped. Oh no my friends, I ended up coming home and hooking up our wireless internet. All so I could sit here and tell you about my day. Yehh!! OK, now off to bed I go.

Dumb-Dumb of the Week: Megan Wants a Murderer

The latest "love' show on VH1 is "Megan Wants a Millionaire" of which Megan Hauserman has already been on Rock of Love, For the Love of Money, and Charm School. VH1 felt sorry for her and gave her a show of her own where she can find the 2 things she wants most...a man and his money. Anywho, one of her contestants is now wanted for the murder of his wife! Ryan, the rich Canadian smooth-talker, allegedly put her body in a suitcase badly beaten with missing teeth and fingers. This is horrendous news! Ryan has fled to his motherland of Canada, and I sure hope they catch him! Let's just say VH1 canceled the show...thank goodness.

Vatermelon

Watermelon season must be over because I have not had a good slice in some time now. My dad and I used to slice up an entire watermelon (well, mom did it actually) and eat the whole thing in one sitting. Man has this summer has been waaayyy too short!

In and Out of Time - Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou read this poem in Madea's Family Reunion and I just love it! The poem is one thing to read, but a whole other beauty to watch/hear her read it.

The sun has come

The mists have gone

We see in the distance our long way home

I was always yours to have

You were always mine

We have loved each other in and out of time

When the first stone looked up at the blazing sun

And the first tree struggled up from the forest floor

I have always loved you more

You freed your braids, gave your hair to the breeze

It hung like a hive of honey bees

I reached in the mass for the sweet honeycomb there

God, how I loved your hair

You saw me bludgeoned by circumstance

Lost, injured, hurt by chance

I screamed to the heavens

Loudly screamed

Trying to change our nightmares into dreams

The sun has come

The mists have gone

We see in the distance our long home

I was always yours to have

You were always mine

We loved each other in and out,

in and out, in and out of time.

Last Holiday

So I never thought a movie featuring Queen Latifah would make me thankful for life, but her movie, Last Holiday, is an uplifting and happy movie to see. To be honest, it's on TBS quite often and I watch it every time I run into it. Basically, Queen Latifah's character, Georgia Byrd is a woman full of what-ifs and dreaming of the possibilities. She works at a department store, saves every dime of her money for something bigger, never ate what she wanted (but loved to cook for others), and never took chances with a man she is interested in (LL Cool J nonetheless!). One day, after an accident, Georgia is told that she is terminally ill and only has 3 weeks to live. She doesn't tell anyone, and instead, she cashes some bonds her mother left her, took out her savings, and went to Europe to stay at a grandiose hotel. This is when Georgia lets loose. She flies first class, eats like a Queen, meets new friends, and really enjoys her last days. Should I tell you the rest? Maybe you should check it out, because this movie really motivates me to live life to the fullest because you never know when your last day will come.

(Pssst.....the movie has a happy ending).

What I'm Going To Be...

It's crazy when I look back at my life and think about all the things I have done. Good or bad, I would not take back a thing....ok, maybe a thing or two. Overall, I have been so fortunate. What's even more exciting is thinking of the future. At times I feel old because I wake up, go to work, come home, go to bed, and start all over again. Then I think about it and realize that I'm only 24, live in one of the best cities in the world, have the best bf a girl could ask for, a wonderful job, and such a support system. I can't wait to see what the future holds for me and what I will one day become!

Yee-Haw!

Two Fridays ago marked a night of celebration...my bf's brother's gf's Birthday (ha!) and the engagement of Jon and Michel (the brother's bf and now fiance). I unfortunately missed the big dinner at one of our fav places, Essex, but was able to make the party at Mason Dixon where there were bottles and bull rides. Above are some pics of my bf showing his cowboy side.
