Alice Inspired

I'm a huge Tim Burton fan, so you can imagine how excited I was to hear he was directing the 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland. The movie is coming out in March, and boy am I excited to see it. If people are expecting to see a rendition of the Disney version, then I suggest they check out the trailer or perhaps see any of Tim Burton's past films - Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Big Fish, James and the Giant Peach, etc. If you didn't like the 2005 re-make of Charlie and the Chocolate factory, then I may assume you won't care for this version of Alice in Wonderland...not that I am saying they are comparable movies, but that Tim Burton gives a very dark perception of things that some people do not like. I happen to love the dark, mysterious, quirkiness that is Tim Burton, so even if the story sucks, I will love this movie.

Oh It's A Jolly Holiday With Mary!

I went to see Mary Poppins at the Amsterdam Theater last Wednesday and it was soooo wonderful! The broadway show is slightly different than the movie, and delightfully so. I loved the twists they added.....such as the dad's evil nanny Mrs. Andrews, dancing statues, the hilarious butler, the talking shop, and so much more. I was a bit sad there was no scene of Mary, Burt, and the kids on the merry-go-round that turns into a horse race. We sat 5th row center and could see every facial expression, costume detail, and all the magical set displays. It was truly magical and I would recommend any person, old or young, to go see it.

Sad To See Her Go

One of my beloved sorority sisters and dearest friend Amanda has been staying with us for the past month. Now everyone asks how it is possible to have a 3rd person in a 450 sq. ft. apartment, but to be very honest, it was amazingly easy. Amanda was the perfect roomie and such a blessing to be around. She left on Saturday and I miss her already. Au revoir Amanda!

Just Like Old Times

Two of our best friends from college came to visit us over the weekend, and what a time we had. We had such a GREAT time....eating, drinking, dancing, talking, and most importantly laughing. Amanda laughed so hard at one point that she started to cry. I have NEVER seen Amanda cry. I am such a lucky girl to have such great friends. I hope to live closer to them one day.

Dumb-Dumb of the Week: Plastic Heidi-doll

Heidi Montag got lots o' plastic surgery, 10 procedures to be exact. I admit she was physically pretty (but her soul was as dirty as the streets of Chinatown), and now she looks fugly. Her bubbies are too big and her face is beginning to resemble the cat woman herself, Jocelyn Wildenstein.

Ga-lic

My fingers smell strongly of garlic even after hand-washing and showering. Gross!

Weird

This is old news to some, but for me, this was brand-spanking new...Dexter's Michael C. Hall and his on-screen sis Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) are married! Something's weird about marrying someone who plays your sister. I guess we can dub this the Greg/Marcia Brady Syndrome.

P.S. Deb looks like a bobble-head doll.

P.P.S. (or is it P.S.S.?) Michael C. Hall was diagnosed with cancer, but treatment seems to be going well (says Dlisted).

Baby Granny

I like to think of my style as sometimes childish (i.e. giant bows and short, flouncy skirts) and a little grandmama (i.e. little leather oxfords, polyester, patterned shirts).

Songs I Love: I'll Be Seeing You

I'll Be Seeing You - Billie Holiday

This song brings tears to my eyes. The type of tears that comes from deep within your soul, the type of tears that make you long for your loved ones. Not to mention this song was in the movie The Notebook when the older Noah and older Allie dance together during the few short minutes they had together. Or was it after they danced and he played it for her? Anywho, what a tear-jerker this song is for me.

Toby's Haircut

Little Toby got a haircut and what a cutie he is!

God Bless

May God watch over the people in Haiti who were affected by that terrible earthquake. I cannot imagine the terror and sadness sweeping that nation and all of the people who are worried about their loved ones.

The "LC" Wig

My high school amigos never cease to amaze me. No matter how old we get, they are still the same, hilarious bunch of people. Klee had a rad mullet wing laying around his "man cave" garage, which only lead to my friends all putting it in on for giggles. We even gave it a nickname "LC"....you had to be there to know where that nickname came from.

The Strauss household had 2 lovely pups...Sammy and Jake. Now welcome little Toby to the clan. He is a little Morkie (Yorkie meets Maltese) and will grow up to be a hefty 3lbs. Watch out folks, he's a biter!
